Kadbanwadi- the winning perspective

Just as how Mahatma Gandhi stated, “If the village perishes, India will perish too. It will be no more India. Her own mission in the world will get lost.” Therefore, villages in India have been consistent in setting examples for the rest of the country. The village of Kadbanwadi is an exceptional example of selfless effort and hard work. A retired teacher, Bhajan Das Vitthal Pawar, along with the villagers converted the barren land of their village to flourishing agricultural zone with water conservation. It was one of the 300 drought prone villages of Maharashtra where drinking water was grandeur.

It took around 20 years for Kadbanwadi to have lush green farm that is producing vegetables and cereals, capable enough to have four hundred hectares of pomegranates orchards, five hundred hectares of forestland and abundance of chinkaras (Indian Gazelle) in these forests.

The villagers worked persistently to meaningfully decorate their village with about one hundred pond farms, one hundred and ten earthen bunds, three percolation tanks and about three hundred hectares of land is being used to build bunds on a continuous basis.

The village of Kadbanwadi just does not teach us the benefits of water conservation but also the value of team work and awareness and that he willingness to educate ourselves can take us to unbelievable heights.
