The Great Banyan Tree.
Kolkata boasts of a gigantic tree which is the widest tree in the world called The Great Banyan Tree. Located in Acharya Jagdish Chandra Bose Botanical Garden appears to be like a forest and occupies around 14,500 square meters of land. However, what appears to be like trees are aerial roots of The Great Banyan tree, which are 3,600 of them. It is nearly impossible to be able to locate the main trunk. That is because the tree has survived two major cyclones in the nineteenth century where the main trunk that was about fifty-one foot wide, got infected by a fungus and had to be disposed. It is enthralling that the trees continued to thrive without the main trunk. The management of the Botanical Garden has constructed a road on the circumference of the tree for visitors to drive around. As per the Business Insider, the Great banyan is surpasses the size of an average Walmart store. Aldiss’ Hothouse too has featured it. It also holds the record in the Guinness Book of World Records. The tree is estimated to be about 250 years old apparently; however, there is no official record of it coming to life. The Great Banyan tree in a blessing, it would be great if we had more blessing to count upon.
